Skulpiesbaai House

This ocean-side home is perched on the Northern slopes of a Fynbos-protected greenfield site overlooking the Indian Ocean. The gentle slope to the rocky shoreline offers 180-degree views over the Indian Ocean. A dream site, indeed!

Masters Thesis

The Design of a Community Owned Winery in Philippi Informal Settlement, Cape Town

The study focuses on Philippi as a particular place and the communities that dwell there. It aims to study the spatial dispositions caused by South Africa’s troubled past.

House Seyuba

House Seyuba is an alteration and addition project, reimagining an outdated suburban house into a modern family home that balances heritage sensitivity with contemporary living.

Aurora Row

As River House Studio’s inaugural commission, this project holds a special place in our journey and remains a proud milestone.

House Bisset

The brief for this project was to transform the existing traditional 60’s cottage into a contemporary home. This was achieved by adding an additional storey to the building and reconfiguring the ground floor plan to create an open-plan design, while retaining as much of the existing structure as possible.

Founded in 2024 by architect Willem Steytler, River House Studio is a Cape Town-based firm where boundaries dissolve, allowing our vision to transcend landscapes and cultures alike.

We believe in timelessness and poetic design, both in form and function.

Our name, River House Studio, is a tribute to the farm in the winelands where Willem grew up – a place of immense beauty in its relationship with nature and landscape, richness in atmosphere and material qualities. It is this spirit we seek to capture in every project, creating spaces where life unfolds gracefully and meaningfully.

Guided by our passion for architecture and a dedication to the human experience, we believe in a process that is as seamless as it is inspiring.
